Building a Vibrant L.A. Jewish Community
Awarded biennially in the spring of even-numbered years, The Foundation's Capital Grants support construction and renovation projects for facilities that predominantly serve members of the Los Angeles Jewish community. (Please note that grants are seldom made for routine building repairs or equipment purchase.)

Award Levels
Grant award limits are not pre-established, but in the past have generally not exceeded $50,000, or 10% of the project construction costs.
On average, The Foundation awards 10 to 15 grants during the Capital Grants cycle.
Program Deadlines
Capital grants are not currently available. The application process will resume in 2011.
- Request for Proposals - October (of odd-numbered years)
Since these grants are awarded biennially in the spring of even-numbered years, we announce a request for proposals in October of odd-numbered years. - Grantseekers' Workshop - November (of odd-numbered years)
All eligible applicants are strongly encouraged to attend the Grantseekers' Workshop. We will provide the application forms, explain the eligibility requirements and provide instructions for completing the application form. Workshop space is limited and reservations are required. - Hearing with Capital Grants Committee - April (of even-numbered years)
Invited applicants attend a hearing with the Capital Grants Subcommittee in April. - Grant Awards Announced - July (of even-numbered years)
Application Process
- Funding is available every second year, on even-numbered years.
- In October, we post a Request for Proposals on this website and in the Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles.
- We host a workshop for grantseekers in November to explain the eligibility requirements and provide instructions for completing the application form. Application forms are available at this workshop. Space is limited and reservations are required. For more information contact the Grants Department at (323) 761-8705 or by email.
- If you do not attend the Grantseekers' Workshop, application forms are available after the workshop has taken place. Please submit a request by email and we will send you an application form.
- Applications are due in February of even-numbered years.
- We invite eligible applicants to attend a hearing with the Capital Grants Committee in April of even-numbered years.
- We announce the grant awards in July of even-numbered years.
Eligibility Requirements
All applicants must:
- Substantiate community need
- Demonstrate both board and community support
- Submit multiple contractor bids
- Provide documentation demonstrating that a minimum of 75% of project funds have been committed or received
- Present evidence of fiscal ability to cover the associated operational and program costs
- Provide a Board-approved fundraising plan designed to ensure project completion
Restrictions
- Applicants must demonstrate the ability to complete the project within two years. If the project is not completed within two years, the grantee may forfeit the award, but may re-apply.
- Applications are not accepted for projects in hiatus resulting from inadequate fundraising.

- Are you seeking a grant for a construction or renovation project for a facility that predominantly serves members of the Los Angeles Jewish community?
- Can you substantiate a community need for your program?
- Do you have multiple contractor bids for your project?
- Can you provide documentation demonstrating that a minimum of 75% of the project funds have been committed or received?
- Can you present evidence of fiscal ability to cover the associated operational and program costs?
- Can you provide a Board-approved fundraising plan designed to ensure project completion?
Can you demonstrate your ability to complete the project within two years?
