Marvin Schotland, z”l

We mourn the passing on January 7, 2026 of our former President and CEO Marvin Schotland, z”l, a highly respected philanthropic leader who led the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles for 33 years, between 1989 and 2022.

Under his visionary stewardship, our assets grew from $90 million to $1.5 billion, significantly expanding our impact on charitable causes locally, nationally, and in Israel. Most notably, approximately $2 billion in grants flowed to the community during his tenure. He is fondly remembered for his deep devotion to tzedakah, Israel, the Jewish people, and his family.

In times of great polarity, Marvin taught us that the path to unity is paved with love for one another. Kol Yisroel areyvim zeh ba’zeh – “All of us are responsible for one another” – was his guiding principle at The Foundation, enabling us to bring many philanthropists together across a wide spectrum of views and beliefs for the sole purpose of improving our world.

May Marvin’s memory be a blessing and inspire us to pursue tzedakah and chesed with even greater passion.

To make a donation in memory of Marvin, please support the Aviva Schotland Memorial Fund established in memory of his daughter who passed away in 2021: avivaschotland.jewishfoundationla.org.
