ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Founded in 1951, Shalom Institute Camp and Conference Center (Shalom Institute) facilitates transformative experiences grounded in Jewish values that foster community, promote inclusion, cultivate leadership, inspire conscious social action, nurture Jewish tradition and culture, and instill a responsibility to the environment. Through Camp JCA Shalom overnight and day camps; Camp Gesher for Russian-speaking families; Jewish educational, social justice, and retreat experiences; and employment opportunities for people with disabilities at Shemesh Farms, Shalom Institute reaches thousands of individuals per year.

GRANT PURPOSE

To launch an initiative designed to strengthen workplace culture, boost morale, and reduce burnout and attrition, enabling its staff and community to thrive.

We thank the Jewish Community Foundation for their investment in our greatest asset - the resilient Shalom Institute staff - who have faced the ongoing realities and challenges of both the 2018 Woolsey Fire, which destroyed our Malibu campus, and the Covid-19 pandemic. With this Reimagine Grant, our Wellness and Professional Development Initiative will lead to a stronger, healthier workplace culture that enables our staff to thrive. This will further ensure the continuation of a high level of excellence in our programs and services, positively impacting the thousands of community members we engage each year, and result in a more vibrant Jewish Los Angeles.
