ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Founded in 2009, OpenDor Media is a global digital media company that works to strengthen young people’s understanding of and connection to Israel, Judaism, and the Jewish people, and address contemporary challenges that young Jews face. Its Unpacked division creates content targeted for 13-34 year-old audience members via YouTube, social media platforms, and podcasts; its Unpacked for Educators division provides resources to enrich educators’ teaching of Israel, Zionism, Jewish values, antisemitism, and challenges facing young Jews today; and its Film and TV division produces award-winning films and documentaries about Israel and the Jewish people.

GRANT PURPOSE

To expand and enhance the Collaborative School Program, a professional learning community that convenes LA educators with peers locally and across the world; creates a shared language on how to teach about Israel using nuanced and thoughtful content and pedagogies; and provides a forum for colleagues to share tools, troubleshoot challenges, and offer encouragement to strengthen their work in Jewish and Israel education. The program aims to develop a diverse network of Israel educators trained in effective Jewish and Israel teaching practices.

Thanks to the generous support of The Foundation, OpenDor Media will be able to expand our work in LA, deepening our impact and reach across Los Angeles, and strengthening the connection of young people to Israel and the Jewish people. This funding will also allow us to focus on the LA Collaborative, which is a professional learning community that empowers educators to improve their Jewish and Israel teaching practice and create a shared language on how to teach about Israel with a passionate and empathic approach.
