ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Founded in 1955 in the underground of the former Soviet Union (FSU), Chamah assists individuals and families through job placement, holiday food distribution, and Jewish Identity programming. Today, Chamah runs humanitarian and educational programs in Russia, the United States, and Israel. Since 1971, Chamah’s work in Israel, which is based in the Negev development town of Kiryat Malachi, has served thousands of Russian immigrants annually.

GRANT PURPOSE

To mitigate the economic hardships faced by The Foundation’s grantees in Israel, resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, and to help them achieve long-term organizational sustainability.

With thanks to the generous support from the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles, the Chamah organization is able to provide Jewish identity programs to the Russian-speaking population. During COVID-19, the demand for meaningful Jewish experiences from our beneficiaries who wish to connect to the Jewish people and Israel is more than ever.
