ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Founded in 2021, The LUNAR Collective works to cultivate connection, belonging, and visibility for Asian American Jews through multimedia storytelling (short films, interviews) and community events in Los Angeles (e.g. an Asian Jewish Passover seder), San Francisco and New York. With support from the Jews of Color Initiative’s mini grant program, five young Chinese Jewish women launched LUNAR to engage wider communities in a deeper understanding about the intersection of Jewish and Asian-American identities. LUNAR’s YouTube channel facilitates nuanced, honest conversations about identity, covering themes such as media representation, the model minority myth, racism, antisemitism, belonging and inclusion in Jewish spaces, family, culture, and fusion food. The first episode of its video series received over 3,500 views.
