Supporting Our Community This Passover
As we gather around the Seder table with our loved ones and retell the story of liberation, we are reminded of our collective responsibility to help those in need. In the spirit of tzedakah, The Foundation is proud to award nine grants to organizations working to combat food insecurity in Los Angeles and in Israel.
Championed by our team at The Foundation, as well as our community members, these organizations play a vital role in ensuring those in need have access to nutritious meals, particularly during Pesach.
Los Angeles
Food Forward: Fights food waste and distributes enough fruits and vegetables to meet the daily-recommended nutritional needs of more than 250,000 people in Southern California.
Hollywood Food Coalition: Provides nightly dinners to the unhoused in the Hollywood area, serving more than 200 people nightly; hosts mobile health clinics, refers attendees to social services, and provides items for basic needs.
Love N Groceries: Alleviates the financial and emotional burdens felt by Jewish widows and widowers and their children. Each week, recipients choose the groceries or necessities they need from a list, and volunteers deliver these items with discretion and care.
Tomchei Shabbos (Touch of Kindness): Reaches thousands of Jewish families and provides basic needs including food, clothing, financial assistance, and employment support.
MAZON: A Jewish Response to Hunger: Works to end hunger among people of all faiths and backgrounds in the U.S. and in Israel; focuses on governmental advocacy; grantmaking to food banks and pantries; engaging the Jewish community in local anti-hunger advocacy; and partners with 1,000+ synagogues to mobilize their members to help end hunger.
LevLA: Provides 100% free hospitality for medical patients and their families who have come to LA (often from Israel) for care. This year, they are hosting two Passover Seders and expect 100 young people from the community who have nowhere else to go.
Israel
Lasova: Hosts a Passover seder at its soup kitchen restaurant, feeding 250-400 people experiencing food insecurity. Over the holiday, Lasova opens its kosher-for-Passover soup kitchen for free meals to over 500 people per day.
Latet: Manages an annual campaign in collaboration with Israeli supermarket chain Shufersal, providing 30,000 food packages to families in need during Passover.
Leket Israel: Provides over 35 million pounds of fresh produce to the country’s most needy during Passover. Food recipients include single-parent families, the elderly, Holocaust survivors, and recent Russian-speaking immigrants.
