52 Grants Totaling $500,000 Strengthen Security for L.A. Jewish Community
52 GRANTS TOTALING $500,000 STRENGTHEN SECURITY FOR L.A. JEWISH COMMUNITY
June 30, 2025
In response to the unprecedented increase in antisemitic threats and attacks, 52 Jewish nonprofits across Los Angeles recently received special security grants. These grants were awarded through a unique collaboration between Jewish Federation Los Angeles (JFEDLA), the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles, and the Jewish Federations of North America’s 2025 Emergency Security Fund in partnership with The Tepper Foundation.
The grants, ranging from $7,500 to $10,000, are being disbursed across a wide spectrum of the community to provide vital security personnel for Jewish institutions primarily serving children. These include 31 synagogues, 12 schools, four camps, and five community centers and other nonprofits. Here is a full list of recipients.
This unique collaboration combines JFEDLA’s expertise through its Community Security Initiative (CSI) and the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles’ deep knowledge in strengthening community, strategic grantmaking, and rapid response to crises.
These grants represent the second time security grants have been awarded through this collaboration over the past year. Combined with last year’s grants to 55 Jewish nonprofits, a total of nearly $2 million has now been awarded through more than 100 grants to help protect our community.
JFEDLA President & CEO Rabbi Noah Farkas states: “As we have seen time and again recently — from Boulder, Colorado to the streets of our nation’s capital to right here in Los Angeles—Jews in America are under attack. The situation is dire and urgent, and we must do everythingin our power to keep our community safe. We are grateful to The Tepper Foundation, the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles, and everyone involved who helped make this vital grant and partnership happen.”
President & CEO of the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles Rabbi Aaron Lerner stated: “Los Angeles has a diverse and active Jewish community. These security grants, based on the Jewish value of pikuach nefesh (saving a life), aim to ensure that we can continue our activities safely. Our collaboration with JFEDLA enables us to quickly distribute these security grants, addressing safety concerns for Jewish Angelenos who want to congregate, pray, study, celebrate, and express their values peacefully.”
