Abner D. Goldstine is Senior Vice President and a Director of Capital Research and Management Company, has served as either President and Principal Executive Officer or a Vice Chairman and a Director/Trustee of each of the fixed-income funds in the American Funds. He continues as a high-yield portfolio counselor. In 2002, Abner was inducted into the Fixed Income Analyst Society’s Hall of Fame. Prior to joining Capital in 1967, Abner was the chief deputy savings and loan commissioner for the State of California. Before that, he was a vice president and economist for Union Bank in Los Angeles and a vice president and economist for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Mr. Goldstine is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Northwestern University, where he received a bachelor’s degree, and he attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s doctoral program in economics. He is active in a number of community organizations, and he currently serves as assistant treasurer for the City of Beverly Hills.
