The Founded in 2007, the Israeli-American Council (IAC) works to build an engaged and united Israel-American community that strengthens the Israeli and Jewish identity of the next generations, the American Jewish community, and the bond between the people of the United States and the State of Israel.

Grant Purpose

The IAC Care program provides an online database that engages 10,000 LA Jewish and Israeli-Americans in volunteerism and matches them with Jewish as well as non-Jewish community organizations in need of support.  Volunteers commit to a minimum of 4 volunteer hours and receive rewards and incentives for their participation.

Organization Description

Established by Cisco in 2006 as part of their corporate responsibility effort, IT Works seeks to break the cycle of poverty and unemployment for Israelis living in underserved areas.  To this end, it provides the training and technological skills required for employment.  Its programs include 1) WEP: employment assistance for women; 2) STAR: employment assistance for men and women and; 3) WorkIT: IT courses for high-school age Druze students.  IT Works' curriculum and instruction are based on Cisco's 'Networking Academy,' a program that has been vetted for President Obama's 'Workforce Retraining Initiative'.

Women Empowerment Program provides a minimum of 80 women over two years with technology training to integrate into skilled entry-level employment in the Israeli labor market.

Organization Description

Established in 1982, The Jaffa Institute is a multi-service social agency that provides educational, recreational and social enrichment programs to disadvantaged children and their families.  It aims to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty in the greater Jaffa community.  The Jaffa Institute has developed 30 initiatives which include a daycare center, an educational center, a cafeteria, a limited health care facility and a center for Ethiopian and Russian immigrant families to convene and integrate into Israeli society.  These initiatives serve 4,000 Israelis annually.

Welfare to Wellbeing provides 120 disadvantaged, welfare-dependent women with training to qualify for sustainable employment through the 'skills for work' program, which includes computer courses, job placement services, meetings with a social worker and tutorial sessions.

Established in 1982, Jaffa Institute works to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty by providing educational, nutritional, therapeutic, and social enrichment services to impoverished communities in Jaffa, South Tel Aviv, Bat Yam, and Bet Shemesh. It operates 40 programs, including crisis residences for at-risk youth, an educational enrichment center, food security initiatives, support to elderly and Holocaust survivors, and women’s empowerment programs.

Founded in 2002, JConnect works to provide opportunities for meaningful, inspiring, and inclusive Jewish community experiences. Recent projects include Shabbat Tent festival, hospitality tents around the country, and Camp Neshama, a summer camp for young adults.

Create an annual cycle of four festivals in music, culture and service (Camp Jewlicious; TikkunFest; Jewlicious Music; Arts, and Cultural Festival; and LA Sephardic Jewish Music Festival) that will enable thousands of young adults to connect to their Jewish identity through Jewish immersion experiences that showcase young Jewish filmmakers, musicians and artists.

Domestic & Sexual Violence Prevention and Support
Organization Description

Founded in 1980, the Jenesse Center works to provide families who are victims of domestic violence with a comprehensive, centralized base of support that is culturally responsive to low income African American women and women of color.  Its services ensure victims transition from immediate crisis to stability and self-sufficiency. It seeks to prevent and end the cycle of domestic violence through youth programming, education, public awareness and outreach initiatives. Its intervention services include emergency and transitional housing, mental health services, and vocational training and support services.

The Domestic Violence Legal Services Program provides free legal assistance and support to domestic violence victims participating in Jenesse’s shelter, transitional housing, mental health, and vocational program.

Organization Description

Located in Granada Hills, J.E.T.S. (Jewish Education Trade School) Synagogue was established in 2002 to provide a place of worship and religious instruction to the unaffiliated Jewish community. In 2005, J.E.T.S. established a trade school to serve as an alternative to yeshiva education for at-risk Jewish young men ages 16 to 19. Upon completion of the full course of study, students earn a GED, college credits, and a job placement.

Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of LA is a vital institution for Los Angeles’ Jewish and non-Jewish youth, providing a myriad of programs from mentorship to online teen guidance to college assistance to camp. Its mentors continue to meet with mentees and its online teen mental health program, Teen Talk, is thriving given an increased demand among teens for mental health assistance.

The program aims to build a community of empathetic teens, inspired by Jewish values, who are ambassadors of social and emotional health. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a dramatic increase in posts related to self-harm. As a result, JBBBSLA is working to expand the number of days and hours that teen advisors and the licensed social workers supervising the teens are working to ensure the mental health and safety of their peers from five days a week/four hours a day to seven days a week/five hours a day.

Founded in 2009 to help alleviate economic suffering of Jewish families caused by the economic downturn, the Jewish Family  Relief Network  provided first-time clients with coordinated services such as case management, mental health care, job retraining and placement, navigation of financial systems, and assistance with housing, food, and medical expenses.

The Jewish Family Relief Network is comprised of the following five organizations: Builders of Jewish Education; Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles; Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles; Jewish Free Loan Association; and Jewish Vocational Service.

Grant Purpose

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, JFS has seen a significant increase in requests for food, cash assistance, and mental health services, particularly from seniors. They had to close their congregate meal sites and shifted to home-delivered meals. They created a second shift at their Hirsh Kosher Kitchen to produce 14 meals instead of five per week and are delivering over 8,000 frozen meals per week to homebound seniors. They are also delivering SOVA grocery boxes to over 1,100 households in addition to their on-site distribution, and there are 1,000 new households receiving groceries from SOVA.
