Refuah in Shmita

Nefesh is grateful to the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles for recognizing the stresses that all of us have endured as we've worked to support our communities throughout the pandemic. The Foundation’s prioritization of mental health and well-being is the perfect level set providing an opportunity for Jewish organizations like Nefesh to take a pause, take inventory, and recognize that we need the tools and space to process the trauma we have been managing for over an year. Even the process for applying to the grant was cathartic for our team and we welcomed the opportunity to take a breathe and reassess what support we, as staff, are in need of. These pandemic times provided an opportunity to reflect on how we connect with our community and meet their needs. There are meaningful learnings to draw forward from these times and the grant will give us the chance to do some of the reflecting and integration before charging forward.
