ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION
Established in 1854, Jewish Family Service (JFS) of Los Angeles is a multi-service agency whose goals are to strengthen and preserve individual, family, and community life by providing a wide range of human services to people in the community at every stage of the life cycle, especially those who are poor and disadvantaged.
GRANT PURPOSE
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, JFS has seen a significant increase in requests for food, cash assistance, and mental health services, particularly from seniors. They had to close their congregate meal sites and shifted to home-delivered meals. They created a second shift at their Hirsh Kosher Kitchen to produce 14 meals instead of five per week and are delivering over 8,000 frozen meals per week to homebound seniors. They are also delivering SOVA grocery boxes to over 1,100 households in addition to their on-site distribution, and there are 1,000 new households receiving groceries from SOVA.
