ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Founded in 1960, Hillel 818 serves students at CSUN, Pierce College, and Los Angeles Valley College. Its mission is to enrich the lives of Jewish undergraduate students so that they may enrich the Jewish people and the world. It offers upwards of 150+ programs each year, spanning Shabbat and holiday celebrations, Jewish learning, community building, professional development, tikkun olam, and more. Since 2015, it has doubled its staff and increased its student engagement from 300 to 1,200 students annually.

GRANT PURPOSE

To support Hillel Kehillot (Communities), which will adapt Hillel 818’s successful virtual, student-led small interest-based groups for an in-person return to campus. The program allows for more flexibility to evolve as student interest and needs grow, ultimately enabling Hillel 818 to continue to meet the diverse needs of the students it serves.

Thanks to the incredible support from The Foundation, Hillel 818 will be able to provide our large student base with diverse entry points into our community. The use of intentional and interest-based communities leverages the power of smaller, pandemic-safe groups in order to ultimately grow big and impact more Jewish students than ever before.
