ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Founded in 1937, Bureau of Jewish Education of Jewish Los Angeles (BJE) connects families and children in Los Angeles to a broad range of Jewish educational opportunities through its JKidLA website and personal concierge service, and works closely with over 140 local Jewish schools ranging from early childhood through 12th grade to strengthen educational programs. It also operates the largest March of the Living program in the United States, with over 170 participants registered for 2023; runs service-learning programs for teens; and consults with teen-serving organizations on experiential education programs. In the pandemic, BJE regularly convened and supported educators with accessing government funding, virtual learning pivots, and re-opening plans. Since in-person learning has resumed, it continues to offer professional development to educators and reach tens of thousands of families, children, and teens through its programs.

GRANT PURPOSE

To implement a smooth leadership transition amidst the upcoming retirement of its long-serving Executive Director (ED), positioning BJE for a successful and sustainable future.

The ‘Next Stage’ grant awarded to BJE by Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles could not be more aptly named. It is a significant investment in executive leadership transition, enabling BJE to advance to the next stage in organizational capacity to carry forward its mission-driven goals.
