Pantry Packers is the food distribution arm of Colel Chabad, the oldest continuously operating network of social services in Israel, established in 1788. Colel Chabad works closely with municipal governments throughout Israel who help identify and screen those who are in need. The organization also works closely with the Israel Defense Forces both in war and peace — distributing army surplus food, and serving as the rear echelon emergency food distribution system in Northern Israel. Their fiscal sponsor is Colel Chabad.
In response to the October 7 attack, Pantry Packers is distributing food to civilians in shelters across Israel. Based in Jerusalem, Pantry Packers is activating its 22 free soup kitchens and meals on wheels programs to provide food packages to those in need, including people displaced by the war who need reliable access to nutritious food. Pantry Packers creates culturally-sensitive food that honors the dietary requirements of the Ethiopian, Arab and Haredi communities. It estimates that approximately 5,000 evacuees in Jerusalem need food support at this time.
