ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Founded in 1973, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank (LARFB) distributes food and other essentials to children, seniors, families and other individuals in need. It serves more than 300,000 people every month. Approximately one-quarter of its food goes to children, and roughly one-fifth goes to older adults. LARFB mobilizes resources to fight hunger in Los Angeles by sourcing and acquiring food and other products to distribute to needy people through charitable agencies or directly through programs; energizing the community to get involved and support hunger relief; and conducting hunger education and awareness campaigns and advocating for public policies that alleviate hunger.

$75,000

To address the COVID-19 crisis, LARFB began utilizing Mobile Food Pantry vehicles to conduct drive-through food distributions in communities across LA County. To reach food insecure families with children, it is supplying several school systems, including LAUSD, with substantial food kits to supplement the “Grab and Go” school lunch pickup programs. It continues to provide nutritious food to more than 600 partner agencies, who are facing a dramatic spike in need among their communities. It anticipates that it will reach 1,000,000 people through its COVID-19 response.
