ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Founded in 2020, Kamochah is a hub that offers support, education, guidance, and resources to empower the Black Orthodox Jewish community, build bridges, and propel the wider Jewish community towards acceptance, equity, and justice. Kamochah envisions a world where Black Orthodox Jews, their traditions, and their narratives are integrated and valued in the Orthodox community. It seeks to normalize the presence and experiences of Black Orthodox Jews in all sectors of Jewish communal life, including, camps, schools, and shuls. It also seeks to serve as an accessible entry point into Orthodox Jewish life for Black Jews across denominations. The organization, which participated in the Jews of Color Initiative’s incubator program, offers virtual community programs (e.g. Women’s Rosh Chodesh and Men’s Shiurim) as well as in-person gatherings in Los Angeles (e.g. a Lag B’Omer bonfire meetup and Purim celebration), Baltimore, and New York.
