Beit T'Shuvah-"House of Return"-opened its doors in 1987, thanks to a loan from the Jewish Community Foundation for the purchase of an old house near downtown Los Angeles. Its original mission was to provide transitional housing and social services for Jewish ex-convicts. The program has since expanded to reach out to Jews struggling with harmful addictions. In 1996, with seed funding from The Foundation, Beit T'Shuvah started a new residential program for women. Three years later, with another significant Foundation grant, Beit T'Shuvah opened a co-ed campus accommodating more than 100 residents in West Los Angeles. Beyond its residential facilities, Beit T'Shuvah serves more than 2,500 people a year through programs integrating Jewish spirituality, psychotherapy and the "12 Step" principles of recovery.
"The gift from The Jewish Community Foundation was the first donation made to Beit T'Shuvah from a Jewish community agency. We will always be grateful that the The Foundation took a risk and became partners in our vision."
