When professional success comes to a values-driven family, great things can happen. That's been the case for Etan and Emily Cohen. Etan is a successful screenwriter and veteran of well-known TV comedies, such as Beavis and Butthead and King of the Hill. Emily is a talented painter and writer. Both graduated Harvard and are the proud parents of twin daughters.
The young, creative couple created a Donor Advised Fund through The Foundation in 2005 as a way to make their giving more meaningful. They had been supporting various organizations for years but didn't have a plan that would enable them to grow as philanthropists as their careers and lives evolved.
"The Foundation helped us explore our goals and needs and created the perfect solution for us through a Donor Advised Fund. Now, The Foundation is helping us develop a coherent approach to philanthropy. With our Donor Advised Fund, we can commit to philanthropy now, when we have the resources, and take our time in deciding where our charitable dollars will go. Education is an area of philanthropy that is very important to us. We want to help others gain better access to education, just as others have helped us. We're able to do that through the different things our Fund supports, such as yeshivas (Jewish seminaries) and college scholarships."
