Position: Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer

Career highlights: Prior to joining The Foundation, Januzik served as chief financial officer of The California Endowment for four years. He also held senior-level finance positions with several companies in the information-technology and telecommunications industries. He began his professional career with Pacific Telesis Group (subsequently acquired by AT&T) and spent 12 years working his way up to the role of CFO for the company’s Pacific Bell Information Services unit.

Education: MBA, University of Southern California; BA, Economics and Political Science, UCLA; Chartered Financial Analyst, Series 3 and Series 65.

After 23 years in the corporate world, you moved into the non-profit sector.  What prompted you to make this change?

Initially, I was attracted to the position at The California Endowment because it combined two passions of mine — investments and being CFO of a smaller organization. Once I began working there, I realized how fulfilling it was to contribute to the Endowment’s mission, which is helping the underserved in California obtain quality healthcare. It’s a great feeling to get up every morning knowing that you are helping the underserved.

What are your goals for The Foundation?

My primary goal is to make sure that The Foundation's infrastructure can support another doubling in asset size. We have implemented a few new enterprise information systems in the four years I have been here. We are now focusing on enhancing our Donor Services Online system to enable our donors to facilitate their philanthropic activities with even greater ease and convenience and to continue providing excellent service to our donors.  

How are you enjoying working with the Jewish community?

I’ve always felt that it is part of the DNA of the Jewish community to be focused on helping others; the concept of “tikkun olam!”  And that notion has been absolutely reinforced by my experience here.
