LOS ANGELES (April 15, 2010)--The Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles (The Foundation), the leader in planned giving solutions for Greater Los Angeles Jewish philanthropists, will again offer its annual complimentary educational series for professional advisors from April 28 through Dec. 8. The series, entitled “New Directions in Charitable Giving 2010,” features prominent speakers in tax, estate and charitable gift planning.
The presentations are designed for professionals in the accounting, legal, financial and insurance fields. All sessions will be conducted twice, once in Beverly Hills and once in Woodland Hills from 7:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m and will include breakfast. The Beverly Hills location will be at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel, 9500 Wilshire Boulevard and the Valley location will be at the Warner Center Marriott Woodland Hills, 21850 Oxnard Street.
“We continue to provide leadership and the most up-to-date information to assist professional advisors in counseling their clients,” said Elliot B. Kristal, vice president of charitable gift planning. “With the continuously changing world of philanthropy and its ever-changing laws, rulings and regulations, it’s critical for professional advisors to stay well informed. Our speakers series does precisely that.”

- Wednesday, April 28, “Restricted Gifts to Charity – Protecting Donor Intent in Changing Times.” J. Patrick Whaley, a partner with the law firm of Musick Peeler & Garrett LLP, will present the seminar.
- Wednesday, June 2, “Roth to Riches? Determining Whether Conversion Makes Sense.” Christopher J. Clarkson, CFA and director, Bernstein Global Wealth Management, will lead the session.
- Wednesday, July 7, “Making Irrevocable Trusts More Flexible – Powers We Wish We Had.” Allan B. Cutrow, attorney with the law firm of Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp LLP, will conduct the seminar.
- Wednesday, September 15, “Tips Re How Not to Fall into the Family Law Abyss.” Stacy D. Phillips, managing partner of the law firm of Phillips, Lerner, Lauzon & Jamra LLP, will be the speaker.
- Wednesday, Oct. 20, “Life Insurance and Creative Insurance Planning.” Jon J. Gallo, a partner with the law firm of Greenberg Glusker Fields Claman & Machtinger LLP, will present the seminar.
- Wednesday, Nov. 17, “Clients with Diminished or Lack of Capacity – The Role of the Professional.” Barbara Bergstein, a partner with the law firm of Burgh, Balian & Bergstein LLP, will share her expertise.
- Wednesday, Dec. 8, “Current Developments in Charitable Giving and Estate Planning.” Attorney Paul N. Frimmer, of counsel to the law firm of Loeb & Loeb LLP, will conduct the session.
