On the heels of the devastation in Haiti, it is hard to fathom that this past weekend, Chile was struck by an 8.8-earthquake, killing more than 700 people and damaging 500,000 homes.
The Chilean Earthquake Relief Fund has been established by the Jewish Federation to help pool funding for effective and immediate emergency assistance.
Thanks to the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) in coordination with the Jewish Coalition for Disaster Relief, the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles is receiving up-to-the-minute reports from JDC's Latin America team on the ground and assessing how to best direct the incoming contributions. 100% of contributions will go directly to support non-sectarian needs on the ground; The Jewish Federation will absorb all administrative costs.
Another fund we recommend is the American Red Cross International Response Fund.
