The Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles (The Foundation) today announced that the deadline to apply for this year’s Cutting Edge Grants Initiative (CEGI) is Oct. 29, 2010. Awards of up to $250,000 are available for multi-year innovative programs that address important, substantiated needs in the Los Angeles Jewish Community.
Nonprofit organizations or social entrepreneurs may receive funding for:
- Un-tested ground-breaking programs;
- Successful Los Angeles pilot programs ready for community-wide implementation;
- Local adaptations of high-impact initiatives proven outside of Los Angeles, or;
- Programs designed by social entrepreneurs to create new nonprofit organizations.
Since creating the Cutting Edge Grants Initiative in 2006, The Foundation has provided financial support in excess of $6 million to launch 39 innovative programs. Among the previous initiatives seeded are Jewish Jumpstart’s L.A. program, which supports capacity building in emerging and newly created L.A.-based Jewish nonprofits; Simon Wiesenthal Center’s Jewish Student Leadership for a Diverse World, which provides leadership training for high school and undergraduate students to promote cooperation and mutual respect between Jewish and Latino communities; and 30 Years After – The Iranian-Jewish Community at a Crossroads, a program to increase civic engagement among L.A.’s Iranian Jews.
Organizations or individuals interested in applying for a Cutting Edge Grant are encouraged to attend a free grantseekers workshop at The Foundation, 6505 Wilshire Boulevard, on Monday, Sept. 20. Attendees will learn about the Cutting Edge Grants process, selection criteria and how to write a competitive concept paper. Seating is limited and registration is required.
