Founded in 2008, Jewish Jumpstart is a nonprofit incubator headquartered in Los Angeles to assist the emerging community of innovative Jewish startups with infrastructure and organizational development needs. Serving organizations that target diverse constituents of all ages, its mission is to “develop, strengthen, and learn from emerging Jewish nonprofit organizations that build community at the nexus of spirituality, learning, social activism, and culture.”
Jumpstart L.A. provides Jewish social entrepreneurs, start-ups and new independent organizations with cost-effective fiscal sponsorship and fiscal management services in partnership with Community Partners. These services include assistance with accounting, payroll, employee benefits and insurance, and other “back office” efficiencies typically available to 100+ employee organizations. Additionally, to enable these nonprofit leaders to build the organizational capacity necessary to succeed, Jumpstart L.A. offers the following services:
- capacity building, including training in board development, budgeting, fundraising, and financial systems;
- technical assistance, including coaching on effective programming, resource management, marketing, and communication;
- organizational development, including mentoring to conduct organization-wide planning and self-analysis to improve systems;
- peer learning to connect leaders and promote and facilitate communities of practice, leadership study circles and collaboration; and
- jewish community building to engage leaders in ongoing Jewish learning and values-related discussions.
Jumpstart L.A.'s emphasis is on nurturing projects to become sustainable and successful Jewish organizations, ultimately establishing Los Angeles as the center of Jewish innovation.
