Making a Difference

Grantmaking is the heart of what we do. For more than 50 years The Foundation has supported community improvement projects - both Jewish and non-Jewish - locally and in Israel.

Thanks to our generous donors, we were able to distribute a total of $65 million in grants in 2008 to improve our community. Hear what some of our recent grant recipients had to say about working with The Foundation.

We have two avenues for grant distributions:

  • Donor Advised Grants
When donors establish a Family Support Organization or Donor Advised Fund at The Foundation, they are able to recommend distributions directly to the causes and programs they wish to support. In 2008, our donors distributed nearly $62 million in grants through their funds at The Foundation.
  • Competitive Grants
The Foundation itself also serves as a philanthropic venture capitalist, providing seed funding and support to dozens of worthy nonprofit programs and organizations each year. In 2008, The Foundation distributed $3 million in grants to worthy nonprofits.

We take our selection process seriously and require each organization to complete a rigorous screening process. With this rigor comes respect and, oftentimes, other funding opportunities in the community. Plus, The Foundation offers its grant recipients professional guidance and ongoing support to ensure their programs are successful.
